The Telling: A Meal in Celebration of Juneteenth

Event Details

  • Date: Friday, June 17th, 2022

A service and meal of remembrance and celebration led by April Hampton of Montgomery, AL.
Based on the model of the Passover Seder, April created a way “to own our story, to be in charge of the narrative that is spoken about us and over us…We as African-Americans have to share our story with the generations to come, to let them know our rich and positive legacy as a people…If there would be any real hope for our children, they must be taught about who they are in a real and meaningful way that points them towards great destiny instead of bitterness and defeat.”
The ceremony she created is meant to celebrate Juneteenth – and is being held Friday evening, June 17th.
It is being held at Congregation Kol Ami and is sponsored by the White Plains Religious Leaders. There is a charge for the event.
