Our Third Rock the Block Was a Hit!

The third Rock the Block concert of the season brought energy and sunshine to Downtown White Plains on Wednesday, July 16th!

The evening kicked off with Long Island’s The Big Happy. Their upbeat fusion of jam, hip-hop, and rock set a festive tone that perfectly prepared everyone for the night ahead.

By popular demand, line dancing made a lively comeback with instructor Adam leading the way. Dozens of participants joined in, creating a fun and welcoming spirit that also attracted the attention of those watching from the sidewalks. If you love dancing, check out our local dance studio, Arthur Murray’s Dance Studio, right around the corner.

Following this energetic dance session, The Wildmans took the stage. Their signature Appalachian sound, featuring captivating fiddle solos and heartfelt vocals, filled the avenue beautifully. They performed songs from their newly released album, Longtime Friend, further enchanting the audience.

In addition to the great music, the back of the block was buzzing with activity. Picnic tables were filled, and laughter echoed from the activation area, creating a festive atmosphere. Kids and families engaged in arts and crafts, played badminton, and challenged each other at Jumbo Jenga and Connect Four. Both children and adults delighted in the mini-golf and golf simulator stations, adding an extra layer of fun to the evening.

Miss the fun? You still have one more chance to party with us! Our final Rock the Block concert will be on Wednesday, August 20th on Mamaroneck Avenue (Between Maple Avenue and E. Post Road) from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. This last concert will feature Ada Dyer and the Everyday People Tribute Band.

Special thanks to our participating restaurants for offering incredible al fresco dining all night long: Brazen Fox, Cantina, Delicias Peruvian Kitchen, Freebird, Hudson Grille, Lazy Boy Saloon, Lilly’s, Ron Blacks, and Sundance Kitchen.

Thanks to our presenting sponsor White Plains Hospital, and our additional supporters, Argent Ventures, Westchester County, Bruni & Campisi, SRG2 Partners LLC., Cappelli Organization, Saw Mill Stone & Masonry Supplies, LANline Communications and Partyline, and our community partner New York Power Authority (NYPA). Their collective support plays a crucial role in making this event a reality and enhancing the local cultural landscape.

We are also grateful to our mini-golf sponsors for the second half of the Rock the Block season, including Club Champion, Apple Cinemas, Purple Owl, Minuteman Press, Evie’s Cleaners, RXR, Peroni Building Company, Leafology, and Game On Golf Center.

The Pamplemousse Project Awards Grants to Three Local Non-Profit Organizations

The Pamplemousse Project is a café in the heart of Downtown White Plains serving ethically sourced coffee, hand crafted drinks, and fresh baked goods. What sets them apart is their mission of giving back to the community by donating 100% of profits to local nonprofits.

Since opening in December 2022, they have awarded grants to over 15 organizations across Westchester. We recently attended their latest grant ceremony, where $3,500 was awarded to each to Cancer Support Team, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and The Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry.

Local leaders came out to show their support, including White Plains Mayor Tom Roach, Council President Vicki Presser, Council Members John Martin and Jeremiah Frei Pierson, and New York State Senator Shelley Mayer.

Know of a nonprofit or have one that could use support?

Spotted in Downtown White Plains… New Music Store Coming Soon

The community lamented the closure of Sam Ash, but good news: another music store is slated to open in the same place…at least in part of it.

SMASH Music is expected to open in early fall, but the new owners were present the other night when Rock the Block was happening and we were able to drop in with the Mayor to say hello!

They’re holding some light hours downtown now, so you if you pass by and see the door open, stop by and say hello to owners Brian and Keith and give them the warm White Plains Welcome!
