Before She Was Harriet: The Story of Harriet Tubman by Lesa Cline-Ransome, illustrated by James E. Ransome
The White Plains Youth Bureau After School Program in conjunction with the White Plain BID will be hosting its first ever Story Walk!
A StoryWalk is a great way to combine physical activity, literacy and family fun all in one! It’s an innovative way to get everyone of all ages out in the community while reading a book. Starting Wednesday, May 4th, families can walk through downtown White Plains and read the children’s book “Before She Was Harriet” written by Lesa Cline-Ransome and illustrated by James E. Ransom, as they enjoy beautiful downtown White Plains in the spring. This book was chosen to coincide with White Plains’ many activities celebrating the life and legacy of Harriet Tubman and her statue that is being displayed in Renaissance Park.
Posters with pages from the book will be displayed with the first page in the front windows of White Plains City Hall. At each stop there will be a clue and an address leading you to the next location.
Contest 1: Each board will have 1 letter; collect all the letters to put together a phrase and email it to Harriettubmancontest@gmail.com. The first 50 participants that submit the correct phrase will win a prize! Be sure to take pictures and tag us @wpyouthbureau on social media, or share to the email above.
Contest 2: Enter our raffle by posting a selfie at one of the Downtown Business District StoryWalk locations on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Use the hashtag #TubmanWhitePlains and tag White Plains BID:
