Winner of Downtown White Plains Wing Walk 2019

Join Mayor Tom Roach and the White Plains BID at 2:00 PM on Tuesday April 9th at Lazy Boy Saloon, the winner of best tasting wing in the 2019 Downtown White Plains Wing Walk.

On Saturday, April 6, 2019 over 2,000 people flocked to downtown White Plains to attend the first ever Downtown White Plains Wing Walk sponsored by the White Plains BID and City of White Plains. The event featured 16 participating restaurants and 37 different flavors of wings, including the traditional and tasty BBQ, Honey BBQ, Classic Buffalo (mild to hot), Caribbean Jerk, and Teriyaki to tempting and tantalizing creations such as Voodoo, Tajin Clasico, Double IPA infused Buffalo, Passion Fruit Sriracha, Tequila Citrus, Classic Bombay Curry, and many more. Participants strolled through the downtown sampling wings and casting ballots for the best tasting flavor.

With so many different flavors and restaurants to choose from, competition for the title of “Best Wings in Downtown White Plains” was not an easy choice. However, when the ballots were counted on Monday morning it became clear that with 988 ballot cast overall Tequila Citrus from Lazy Boy Saloon emerged as the crowd favorite.

The event was favorably received by those that attended. Judy Cameron from Westchester said “I had a great time! Got to try at least half of them and it was plenty. Got my money’s worth and then some”. Nancy Folsom from Little Falls, NJ said “Had a good time at the Wing Walk today. I’d never explored Downtown White Plains before. Thanks for organizing a wonderful reason to check it out. Very nice day all round.”

Mayor Roach, who conceived the event after seeing a Wing Walk in upstate New York, attended Saturday’s event and said, “I knew that with all the different kinds of restaurants in downtown White Plains a Wing Walk had great potential for success. We hoped for a few hundred participants in our first year and were astounded that 2,000 people came out for this event! I saw whole families participating as well as groups of friends and couples, of all ages. Working with the BID, we continue to look for events and programs that draw people to our downtown. Congratulations to all the 2019 participating restaurants, and especially to our winner. I’m already looking forward to seeing what the restaurants will cook up for next year’s event!”

Brittany Brandwein, Director of Events and Business Promotions for the White Plains BID said “I cannot count the number of times I heard on Saturday how people were discovering restaurants they weren’t aware of and looked forward to returning to. This is exactly why the BID works with its business owners and property owners to plan and host a variety of musical, entertainment and promotional events like this during the year. It is essential to the economic, social, and cultural vitality of downtown White Plains.”
