Bike sharing comes to White Plains

It's fun, it's cheap, it's convenient and it's good for you and the environment.

"Dockless bike sharing has come to White Plains," Mayor Tom Roach said Monday at a news conference to welcome two bike sharing companies that are putting out 300 two-wheelers on city streets. The cost is $1 a ride.

White Plains Bike Share Launch Monday, June 4th

White Plains Mayor Tom Roach will launch White Plains’ dockless bike share program on Monday, June 4 at 12 pm in Renaissance Plaza on Main Street in downtown White Plains. Joining the Mayor will be representatives from White Plains’ two dockless bike share operators: ofo and Lime.

The public will have a chance to view the bicycles firsthand, find out how to use them, and talk directly to the operators.

New Mural Unveiled on Mamaroneck Avenue

The White Plains BID collaborated with ArtsWestchester, Kite Realty Group, and the City of White Plains to bring public art to the streets of downtown White Plains. Artist Wane One was commissioned to paint a mural in the valet lane of City Center, outside of ArtsWestchester's building at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue. The mural was unveiled on Monday, May 14 at 11am.

In time for Earth Day, the White Plains Business Improvement District (“WP BID”) has purchased a Big Belly solar-powered garbage can for the City. The new receptacle will be installed in Renaissance Plaza near Mamaroneck Avenue.

WHITE PLAINS - They're not painting the town red, but ArtsWestchester does plan to create a multi-colored mural on a stretch of Mamaroneck Avenue to celebrate its 20th anniversary on the thoroughfare.

Renovated Station Will Have Enhanced ADA Accessibility, Improved Safety and Technological Upgrades

 

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that a full-scale renewal project that will bring state of the art improvements to the White Plains station is underway.

The project will give Metro-North customers a reimagined station, one that’s more accessible to all, safer, easier to navigate, and technologically up-to-date. The White Plains station has the third highest ridership in the Metro-North system, second only to Stamford and Grand Central Terminal.

Apartment Conversions Prop Up the White Plains Office Market

After years of high availability rates and stagnant rents, the White Plains office market is getting a lift from a boom in apartment construction taking place in this city north of New York City.

 

Developers have been converting office buildings into rental apartments, in some cases demolishing and rebuilding new towers, aiming to draw younger workers and empty nesters to amenity-laden complexes close to shops, restaurants and the train station.

 

Donate Your Old Shoes in White Plains This April

We all have them. An old pair of shoes (or two or three) lying on the floor somewhere in the back of our closets, getting dustier by the week. The City of White Plains is challenging residents to reach in to their closets – all the way to the very back – dig out those old dusty shoes, and donate them to a Citywide shoe recycling effort as part of the City’s celebration of Earth Day. This month-long green effort is underway and will culminate on April.
